Hollywood Casino began as the Argosy Casino and was an actual riverboat style casino. The original casino has been abandoned and the new land based casino has been decorated to look like a riverboat. The atrium is 3 floors, and features a few different restaurants and a buffet. It isn’t anything spectacular, but it is clean and “neutrally classy.”
The new casino is enormous, over 175,000 sqft. It has quite possibly the nicest layout of any casino I have been in. I say this because there are two floors, the main floor which is where almost all of the action is located. All of the table games are near the entrance, the machines are spread out with wide aisles and it is generally easy to move around on the casino floor. There isn’t really a theme throughout the casino, but there are some fake trees towards the back. Now, the downstairs only has a few slot machines and the poker room, but it is the nonsmoking area. The smell downstairs isn’t that of smoke, but rather clean air and freshly cleaned carpet.
Hollywood Lawrenceburg has many of the popular machines, as well as a rather large high stakes area. The gaming commission places the total number of machines north of 3,000, and nearly every single one is relatively newer. They don’t have Video Blackjack, but they have GameKing machines, the 5 player BlackJack machines, and electronic Mississippi Stud. In addition to the classics, all of the new machines can be found here. I’ve seen House of the Dead, The Wizard of Oz, Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and dozens of other machines that are bound to appeal to younger generations.
Hollywood Casino has a handful of restaurants, both in the casino and atrium. I’ve eaten at the 50′s Diner restaurant and the buffet. The diner located in the casino is decorated nicely, but the food wasn’t that great. I had the Philly Chicken Cheesesteak, and it tasted like rubber on a cardboard bun with cheese on it. The buffet was being renovated, but it wasn’t anything special, especially at $16/person for lunch. The day I was there the buffet had General Tso’s Chicken, rice, whole baked catfish (it had the head and eyes still on it!), normal side items, and an average dessert bar. The dessert bar did have hand dipped ice cream, but aside from that, the cookies and cake weren’t anything incredibly special.
Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg probably has the best poker room in the Cincinnati region as far as number of players and how they treat the players. As far as Cincinnati area casinos, Hollywood is probably the winner because of the variety of machines, proximity, and the fact it is the newest of the 3 casinos. While it isn’t a destination resort, Hollywood is probably the best option for those who are traveling in the region, simply because there are nearby attractions. There are European go-karts across the street, skiing and tubing at Perfect North Slopes during the winter, and Downtown Cincinnati is a 30 minute drive.Share on:
