Blackjack is a popular casino card game that offers many advantages to the players. This game has a variable house edge that changes with your level of skills. Also, this game has the ability to alter your bet play when the conditions are in your favor.

The game of blackjack begins when the player places his bet. If you are playing blackjack online, then you just need to click one of the chip buttons that you wish to bet. If you want to bet another chip, then click the chip button once again. Now you simply need to click the deal button and you will get your first two cards. The dealer will also deal himself two cards and expose on of them. The exposed card is known as dealer’s up-card, while the other card is known as dealer’s hole cards.

One basic thing that many players don’t know when they learn how to play blackjack is the real objective of the game. Many blackjack players falsely assume that the object of the game is to get a hand that is as close to 21 as possible without going over. But the fact is that it’s just a part of the game and not the main object. The real object of the blackjack game is to beat the dealer and you can beat the dealer with a hand that is close to 21. But don’t get confused. You can win just as much if you beat the dealer with a 14 as you do if you bet him with a 20. Thus, learning blackjack strategies is quite necessary for you.

Blackjack is played the same in an online casino as it is in a land based casino, such as Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Every single online casino available to US players includes blackjack. In most cases, online casinos also offer a handful of variations to be tried as well.

Players in the US can play the standard form of blackjack in any online casino. The objective to blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without your card total going over 21; going over 21 is called busting and you will automatically lose. Each card is worth its face value. Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth 10. And Aces are worth either a 1 or an 11 depending on which value is more advantageous to you; if you are dealt an Ace you may initially count it as an 11, but after hitting reducing its value to a 1 to keep your card total from going over 21. Any hand that has an Ace is considered a soft hand because its total can change depending on what the best way to value an Ace is for a hand. How to play blackjack in an online casino is the same as playing in a land based casino:

First you click on the chips until you have the amount you wish to bet entered. This will appear in the form of a stack of chips with the total dollar amount on top.

Once you are satisfied with the amount you are betting, click the ‘Deal’ button. You will be dealt two cards face up, and the dealer will be dealt one card face up and one card face down. At this point you can choose to hit or stand. To hit is to receive another card in hopes of raising your card total closer to 21. If you feel that your card total is high enough you would select to stand, which means to not receive any more cards.

Two other options that you may or may not be allowed to play are to double down or to split. The ability to play with either of these options depends on the house rules—some online casinos will allow them and other may not. To double down is to double the amount of your bet and to receive one more card. When doubling down in blackjack you will only receive one more card before you have to stand. To split is to break a pair into two separate hands. A pair consists of two cards with the same value. Your original bet is doubled as well when you split a pair. After selecting to split, each hand is then played out.

Once you have finished playing your cards it is the dealer’s turn to play his hand. There are rules of play that the dealer must follow when playing. Some online house rules say that the dealer must stand on all 17s, while other house rules say that the dealer will only stand on hard 17 which allows for the dealer to hit on soft seventeen. Hitting on soft 17 gives the dealer another chance to beat you. For blackjack players, a dealer who stands on all 17s gives better odds for the player than a dealer hitting soft 17 does.

After the dealer’s hand is played out, any payouts that you have won will be credited to you. Otherwise you can either rebet your original amount again, change the amount of your bet or quit playing.

How to play Blackjack

Now that you have your cards and the dealer have his, so you can decide how you want to proceed. You have many choices, including the two most known as ‘Hit’ or ‘Stand’. When you click the ‘hit’ button, you get another card and when you click the ‘Stand’ button you leave your hand expecting that it will beat the dealer.

‘Splitting’ and ‘Doubling Down’ are other options. You can ‘Split’ two cards if they have same value. ‘Splitting’ a card literally means that you are taking each card and making it the first card of new hands. Suppose, you are dealt two 8’s. As two 8’s on their own gives you 16 (not a very strong hand), splitting them to 2 hands with an 8 to start is a smart action. Thus, you get two good chances at 18. When you Split, you need to place a second bet equal to your original bet for your second hand. If you have split your 8’s, the dealer will push your cards to two separate hands and deal your second card for the first hand. Now you need to make decision on this hand and keep on doing so until the hand has busted or been asked to stand. Now you will be dealt your second hand and you have to decide on it again.

Your other choice besides Hitting, Splitting, or Standing is Doubling down. When you have been dealt your first two cards, if you have a hand with a total of 9, 10, 11, you can bet on the table. Thus, you have a good chance of having a strong hand when more cards are dealt to you. This is because, even if you are dealt a 2 or 10, you only get one additional card and thus you are stuck with a 12.

The first time when you decide to double down is when your first two cards totals 10 or 11, and you can hope for a 20 or 21 if the next card dealt to you is a 10. You should always consider the dealer’s up-card while deciding to double down or not. If the dealer shows busting cards 9 up-card of 5, 6, 7 indicating that they are likely to have 15, 16, 17 and will likely bust, then deciding to double down is always a smart option.

Once you've become confident enough, make a blackjack plan. This involves deciding on how much you have to spend at the online casino and dividing that amount by the number of hands that you are going to play. No matter how loose or detailed your plan is, the important thing is to have one and to stick to it. If the online casino offers variation rules, play them by all means.

Although not many online casino sites offer the surrender rule, for example (as this would mean less income for the site), it is worth looking out for and taking advantage of. Another wise word of caution is not to chase your losses. Play each hand as if nothing happened in the hand before and you will not land up losing your entire bankroll at the online casino. Finally, when it comes to the game of blackjack, online casino sites sometimes don't include it in their bonus offers. Read the terms and conditions of all bonuses before signing up at an online casino to avoid any disappointment.
