New York: A Flourishing Gambling State

During the early part of the nineteenth century, anti-gambling forces decided to make lottery games illegal in New York. By 1840, most of the states didn't have any state lottery. However, it didn't really mean that gambling had ended. There were still so many clubs that operate in New York, though they could be considered as underground. Horse racing was very popular, and somehow, casinos had managed to grow and survive.
